NUSS SPIRALEN

Enjoy these delightful Nuss Spiralen, a sweet pastry filled with chopped nuts and warm spices. Perfect for an afternoon treat or a special occasion.

For the Dough:

  • 300 g Flour
  • 100 g Butter, room temperature
  • 1 packet Baking Powder
  • 100 g Sugar
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 Egg
  • For the Filling:

    • 200 g Mixed nuts (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts), coarsely chopped
    • Cinnamon (to taste)
    • Vegetable Gelling Agent (e.g., Agar-Agar)
    • Sweet Fruit Juice (e.g., apple or orange juice)

Instructions

Dough Preparation:

  1. Mix flour with baking powder and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Cream butter with sugar and add the egg.
  3. Carefully combine both mixtures.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until elastic.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  6. Filling and Assembly:

    1. Lightly toast the chopped nuts in a pan.
    2. Add cinnamon and sweet fruit juice to the nuts and bring to a brief boil until the mixture thickens slightly.
    3. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface into a rectangle (approx. 30×40 cm).
    4. Carefully spread the nut filling evenly over the dough.
    5. Gently roll from the long end of the rectangle.
    6. Cut slices about 2 cm thick with a sharp knife and place them on a baking sheet.
    7. Baking:

      1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius (conventional heat).
      2. Bake the Nuss Spiralen for about 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
      3. Let the Nuss Spiralen cool briefly.

Storage and Serving:

  • Store Nuss Spiralen in an airtight container.
  • Reheat in the oven to warm them up.
  • Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
  • Use fresh nuts for the best flavor.
